    Lycopene

A potent carotenoid antioxidant responsible for the red colour of tomatoes and watermelon. Research suggests lycopene plays a protective role in long-term prostate health.

    What the Research Shows

    Health Professionals Follow-Up Study (2002)

Men consuming the most lycopene-rich foods had a 21% lower risk of prostate issues over a 12-year period.

Journal of the National Cancer Institute

    Chen et al. Meta-analysis (2015)

Pooled data from 26 studies found a significant inverse association between lycopene intake and prostate risk.

    Medicine (Baltimore)

    Kucuk et al. (2001)

Lycopene supplementation (30 mg/day for 3 weeks) reduced oxidative DNA damage in prostate tissue.

    Experimental Biology and Medicine

    How It Works

Lycopene accumulates preferentially in prostate tissue where it neutralises reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inhibits oxidative DNA damage. It also modulates insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1) signalling and induces apoptosis in abnormal prostate cells, supporting healthy cellular turnover.
