Chondroitin Sulfate
A major component of cartilage that helps resist compression and maintain structural integrity. Works synergistically with glucosamine for enhanced joint support.
What the Research Shows
Uebelhart et al. (2004)
2-year RCT showed chondroitin reduced joint space narrowing by 26% and improved pain scores significantly.
Osteoarthritis and Cartilage
Leeb et al. Meta-analysis (2000)
Pooled analysis of 7 RCTs confirmed significant symptomatic benefit with an effect size of 0.78.
Journal of Rheumatology
GAIT Trial (2006)
Combination of glucosamine + chondroitin showed the greatest benefit in patients with moderate-to-severe knee pain.
New England Journal of Medicine
How It Works
Chondroitin attracts water into the cartilage matrix, providing lubrication and cushioning. It inhibits enzymes (hyaluronidase, elastase) that degrade cartilage and stimulates new cartilage and collagen synthesis by chondrocytes. Combined with glucosamine, it provides both structural repair and protection against further degradation.
