Zinc
An essential trace mineral critical for immune function, wound healing, and cellular metabolism. The prostate gland accumulates more zinc than any other soft tissue in the body, making it especially important for men's health.
What the Research Shows
Prasad (2008)
Comprehensive review confirmed zinc deficiency impairs immune cell function and increases susceptibility to infections.
Molecular Medicine
Costello & Franklin (2006)
Prostate tissue contains 10× more zinc than other tissues; zinc depletion is associated with prostate cellular dysfunction.
Prostate Cancer and Prostatic Diseases
Science et al. Cochrane Review (2012)
Zinc supplementation (≥75 mg/day) reduced common cold duration by 42% when taken within 24 hours of onset.
Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews
How It Works
Zinc supports over 300 enzymatic reactions and is essential for T-cell development, natural killer cell activity, and cytokine production in the immune system. In the prostate, zinc inhibits mitochondrial aconitase, preventing the excessive citrate oxidation that characterises early prostate dysfunction. It also acts as a co-factor for 5-alpha-reductase regulation and supports testosterone metabolism.
